summertime

summertime officially begins for me when i click the "enter" button on my last class to grade. when the papers are handed back, the final "but don't i deserve an A?" meetings completed (at least two of those a semester), my red pens resting in the angel-wing cup on my office desk.

bryan is done with his late-night exam-week shifts, and his side-business auction that he's doing right now is past the hardest part. the past few weeks zu hasn't seen him as much as she's used to, so all day she asks "dad-dee? dad-dee-O?" to which i'm usually replying "he's at work, sweetie" or "he's sleeping."

But he has been working during the day this week, so i take zu up in the afternoon to run wild in the library--deserted, as most students have left for home--and play wild babygames with her daddy. well, because dad is just more fun--he can swing her in the air! hang her upside down! carry her up the stairs! flip her over his shoulder! mom can cuddle, and read stories, and color with sidewalk chalk. but i do sing a mean itsy-bitsy-spider.

so far zu and my summer activities have been mostly visiting dad-dee (O!) at the library, skyping with aunt ka-ki, thrifting for junie's room, going on walks, and coloring with sidewalkchalk. we're both suffering from allergies today, so i think the grocery store will be the extent of our outings.

during zu's naps, i've been working more on my book! i'm so happy to have time to focus on it right now, between school and the new baby. i'm working to make it longer--the accepted version was a slim 54 pages, since i always have in the back of my mind advice i got from a professor in freshmen comp class--always do the minimum page length, it gives you less room to mess things up! so expanding to nearly 100 pages does make me a little nervous that i'm messing things up.

speaking of naps, zu is waking up from hers now...

  3. Haha, I feel that way about Stephen too, that he is more "fun" than I am. Still, it's me she wants right before bed, so I am okay with it. :)

SO excited for you and your book!

  4. I thought I commented on this post! I must've read it on Feedly and not visited your actual blog. (Have you found a new reader yet, by the way? Google Reader is dying, as I'm sure you know...I like Feedly a lot, if you haven't found a new one yet.) Happy summering!
